‘Doctor Who’ will feature characters across the LGBT spectrum, says executive producer
Jodie Whittaker will make show history by becoming the first ever female Time Lord

The new season of Doctor Who will have characters across the LGBT spectrum.
Jodie Whittaker has landed the role as the first ever female Time Lord in the upcoming 11th season of the BBC sci-fi show and although the show has, in the past, represented the LGBT+ community with the likes of Bill Potts – played by Pearl Mackie – and most notably Captain Jack Harness (John Barrowman).
But during the press junket for the upcoming season, executive producer Matt Strevens teased that there will be characters from “across the spectrum”.
Strevens said: “Since the show came back in 2005, I think Doctor Who has been amazing at blurring the edges of sexuality and being quite gender fluid about the characters and relationships.
“I’m not going to say if any of our characters are or are not at this point. But it is part, I think, of the DNA that Russell [T Davies] re-imbued into the show.
“There will be characters from across the spectrum.”
In previous season’s it was revealed that the Doctor is in fact married to a woman called River Song – played by Alex Kingston – but in Attitude’s October issue, which is available to download and buy now, Whittaker played coy as to whether the Doctor is now part of the LGBT community.
She says: “Well, it would obviously be in the hands of [lead writer] Chris Chibnall, but River Song would be the Doctor’s wife.”
The new series is set to return to BBC1 in October.
