David Walliams slams ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for not having same-sex couples
The 'Britain's Got Talent' judge took aim at the BBC show after a same-sex dance couple's audition in yesterday's episode
David Walliams has praised two Britain’s Got Talent auditionees, stating they’re proof same-sex couples should be able to compete in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Same-sex dance couple David, 31, and Javier, 33, auditioned for the show in yesterday’s (April 21) episode and their salsa routine won the judges’ applause, including David Walliams, the Mirror reports.
Following their audition, the judge then used the moment to make a subtle dig at BBC’s Strictly.
Walliams said: “As Britain’s number one judge, as voted for by the public, I loved it.
“It just shows there’s nothing funny about two men dancing together. I don’t know why the show on the BBC doesn’t have two men dancing together.”
He added: “It’s fantastic, well done.”
Fellow judge Amanda Holden agreed with Walliams’ dig, adding: “I know, I’ve said the same thing a million times.”
The pair’s comments come after a lengthy debate surrounding the BBC reality show’s lack of same-sex dance couples. Last year, lesbian comedian Susan Calman was targeted by social media users after agreeing to dance with a male partner.
Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood called for same-sex pairings, however singer Will Young and dancer James Jordan dismissed the idea.
