Bryan Cranston apologises for gay Power Rangers comment
Earlier this month we reported that David Yost, the original blue ranger in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, accused Bryan Cranston of homophobia when he said that the blue ranger was “the fey one” in a 2009 interview with IGN.
Following an interview with David Yost last week, NBC Out contacted Cranston over the gay comment and received an apology.
He said, “To be honest, I don’t remember saying that.”
“But I accept that I may have as Mr. Yost suggests, in an attempt at humour. To hear that my impulsive comment hurt someone’s feelings, makes me contrite. I accept responsibility for the thoughtless remark and apologise to Mr. Yost and anyone else who may have been offended.”
In the interview Yost, who came out as gay in 2010, reveals that he was “really hurt” when he read the 2009 interview.
On Cranston’s comment Yost said, “In his mind, he probably thinks he was being funny, but that’s the kind of thing that’s not funny, and that’s the kind of thing I would hear on set.”
He adds, “And when you hear stuff like that enough times, it gets to you.”
Bryan Cranston stars as Zordon in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot.
