‘Arrow’ character finally comes out as gay – Watch

William Clayton confirmed his sexuality in the latest episode of the DC series

A major character of the DC Comic series Arrow has finally confirmed he is gay.

William Clayton – who is the son of the titular character played by Stephen Amell – has indicated in previous episodes that he has had same-sex relationships in the past with the character briefly mentioning an ex-boyfriend.

But in Monday night’s (February 11) episode, Clayton – who is played by openly gay actor Ben Lewis – finally used the words ‘I’m gay’.

When the character is asked if he and Felicity Smoak used to date, Clayton said: “God, no! I’m gay and she’s my mum.”

This marks the first time that the character has used the word ‘gay’ to describe himself and following the episode, Lewis tweeted: “God, no! I’m gay and she’s my MOM!” may be my favourite line of dialogue ever. @ARROWwriters #Arrow”

Although the series saw Clayton open up about his sexuality, the episode also saw the fan favourite gay character Mr Terrific leave the show.

Echo Kellum had played the out character Curtis Holt/Mr Terrific since 2015 but his character decided to leave the Star City to take up a job in Washington DC.
