American Horror Story season eight theme teased by Ryan Murphy

The show's creator has already begun hinting at the theme of the upcoming series.

Ryan Murphy has teased the theme for the next season of American Horror Story. 

Murphy tends to remain quiet about every new season of the anthology series, which has seen storylines involving haunted asylums, witches and freakshows. 

However, he has now revealed plans for the upcoming season which is set to air later this year. 

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour last Friday (January 5), Murphy said: “All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future – still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done.” 

When asked if the upcoming season will be set in space, Murphy clarified it won’t, but revealed that FX boss John Landgraf is completely behind him. 

“I pitched it to Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is.

“I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.” 

The producer also touched on the much-rumoured crossover between the Murder House and Coven seasons. 

“It’s not next season, it will likely be the one after that,” he revealed, which means the crossover season will most likely air sometime in 2019.

Last year’s political series, Cult, told the story of the conflict between lesbian liberal mother Ally Mayfair-Richards (Sarah Paulson) and Kai Anderson (Evan Peters), a Trump-worshipper.

It also blessed us with two steamy sex scenes between Colton Haynes and Evan Peters, and Haynes and Billy Eichner. 

We can’t wait to see what this year’s season has in store for us…
